INTERNATIONAL CHRISTIAN BUSINESS & LEADERS AWARD (IC-BLA)
That our nation Nigeria is bedevilled by corruption is no longer news. What continues to make the news is that the nation seems to have continued on this inglorious highway despite the huge presence of Christians whom statisticians tell us constitute about 50% of our total population. The reality on ground is the prevalence of corruption, violence, poverty and decadence due to the absence of Christian morals and values in the marketplace.
Indeed it is obvious that Christians in general are not making the needed impact for the progress of the nation, just because of the prevailing erroneous ideology which encourages Christians to separate their faith from their career or business. We believe that God wants every believer to glorify Him in and through their business by modelling Jesus Christ and allowing Him live in and through our work life so as to manifest the Kingdom of God. Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. (Col. 3:23-24)
We believe that the Christians can positively transform Nigeria by living out biblical principles in the marketplace. It is also our belief that Nigeria and indeed the world are in need of Christian businessmen and women who see their business, career or work as a vocation or platform for the worship of God or as another dimension of their lives as believers. Such people are in business not only to make money and eradicate poverty in the land but also to deliberately advance the principles of the Kingdom of heaven in the marketplace.
As leaders, their purpose is to help men and women working with them fulfil their God-given calling in and through their work life. They understand the concept that economic prosperity follows obedience to biblical precepts; that faithful stewardship and excellence in service are the pathways to dominion in business. Such people see themselves as stewards of the resources which God had committed into their hands and which they must be called to account for. Hitherto the dearth of moral values and the attendant get-rich-quick syndrome have largely paled the untiring efforts of these well-meaning Christians in the Nigerian marketplace into insignificance. And the glorification and idolization of men of questionable character in the business and political circles make the path of honour and integrity seem foolish and unattractive to the youth and future leaders of our nation.
It is in the light of the foregoing that the Market-Place Apostles Empowerment Foundation decided to annually single out and recognize Christian business persons and leaders in other fields who have not only excelled in their chosen sectors but have impacted lives and society positively. We celebrate them not just in appreciation of the role they play in God’s kingdom plan but to also encourage other believers to tow paths of honour and integrity. This will in turn give our young entrepreneurs and budding leaders role models worthy of emulation.
We do this without losing sight of the fact that Israel and the nations we idolize today in Europe and America are the products of Godly men and women that dotted the various segments of their societies promoting kingdom values for the rest of the society and laying kingdom-based foundations on which their nations’ economies were built. Nigeria and the rest of the world are eagerly waiting for the ambassadors of God’s kingdom to be unveiled in the marketplace. And we feel duty-bound to reveal them. For the creation eagerly waits with anticipation for God’s sons to be revealed (Romans 8:19). Uche Onochie President & Founder Marketplace Apostles Empowerment Foundation
